Secret Headquarters,Thank You Comics, and Dungeon Dungeon in Los Angeles

What do you do for your shop?
Manager! Jill of all trades (no pun intended.)

How long have you worked there?
About 3 years, though I was a subscriber at Secret Headquarters for 4 years before that.

What are some of your favorite comics?
Of all time? Stray Bullets, Goon, anything by Jason, Love & Rockets, the Hilda series by Luke Pearson.

Who are some of your favorites in the comics biz?
Jason, Los Bros Hernandez, Bendis, Frédérik Peeters, Darwyn Cooke, Michael DeForge

Who are some of your favorite comic book characters?
Dr. Strange, Hellboy, Maggie & Hopey, Jessica Jones, Amy Racecar, the aforementioned Hilda. Batman, duh.

What is your most prized comic book or collector’s item?
My giant Kramers Ergot 7. Original art by Steve Wolfhard, Dustin Harbin, Brandon Graham, Hellen Jo, and Simon Hanselmann.

Which comics do you recommend the most often?
Hilda! Have I mentioned her enough? Any of the books from Nobrow’s new Flying Eye imprint, really. All ages books are my jam.

What kind of events does your shop participate in or host?
We have art shows and book signings once or twice a month. FCBD, of course.

Favorite webcomics/webcomic creators?
Achewood, Bad Machinery, Diesel Sweeties, Octopus Pie, Questionable Content, Natalie Dee, Hark A Vagrant, Truth Zone, anything DeForge puts up. Many more; I adore webcomics.

If you could only read one graphic novel for the rest of your life, which one would it be?
The Girl From HOPPERS volume of L&R, or Eye of the Majestic Creature by Leslie Stein.

What other things are you a fan of (TV shows, novels, movies, ect)?
I watch way, way, WAY too much TV. I’m a huge Star Trek fan and I love American history.

Do you collect anything?
The souls of my enemies. But mugs, really.

If you could have any one superpower, what would it be? What would you use it for?
Speeding up time. I would use it to make everyone super punctual.

Do you believe there is other life in the universe, and if so, what do you imagine it looks like?
I’d imagine there must be, right? If life is like Star Trek they would look mostly like humans but with weird hair or facial ridges or something.

Do you go to any conventions?
SDCC, when I can. I want to start going to more. Going to TCAF would be a dream.

Are you a cosplayer? If so, what characters have you cosplayed?
I WISH. I’ve been Jughead and Tank Girl for Halloween…

Outside of the day job, what other cool stuff are you working on?
Eating as much food in as many places as possible. Riding my bike around town.

Tell us an uplifting story about working in your shop!
ComicsAlliance picked up this story from last year. I love introducing kids to comics, especially little girls.

What do you love about being a Valkyrie?
Getting advice and support from so many other women with similar lifestyles is really incredible!
